Michael Anthony McClurkin - President

Michael Anthony McClurkin graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2013. In 2011, Michael attended the Summer Medical and Dental Education Program at Yale School of Medicine where he solidified his decision to pursue medicine. In 2012, Michael returned to Yale School of Medicine through the Yale School of Medicine Biomedical Science Training and Enrichment Program where he spent a summer doing research in Neurology.  After graduation, Michael began a one-year fellowship with the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute where he worked on chronic disease epidemiology, community-based participatory research, and community outreach projects with a focus on racial and socioeconomic health disparities. Michael also organized several health screening events at local churches, which served over 100 community members, to fulfill the requirements of the National Institutes of Health Academy Program. He left the NHLBI with several peer-reviewed abstracts and publications. As the current President of Harvard Medical School's Student National Medical Association Chapter, his primary responsibility is ensure that the chapter remains aligned with their mission to supporting current and future underrepresented minority medical students, address the needs of underserved communities, and increase the number of clinically excellent, culturally competent and socially conscious physicians. Michael is excited to begin the next chapter of his career as a New Pathway M.D. student at Harvard Medical School. He plans to continue his commitment to promote racial and socioeconomic diversity in medicine and providing equitable healthcare to disadvantaged populations throughout his tenure at Harvard Medical School.
