Kwadwo Owusu-Boaitey - Pipeline Coordinator

Kwadwo is a first year MD-PhD student in HST. He's originally from Ghana, in West Africa, but grew up in Ellicott City, Maryland. His first name means "born on Monday", and so unsurprisingly he was born on a Monday.

He graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 2014 with degrees in Philosophy and Biology, having been a part of the Meyerhoff Program during his time there. He's very interested in philosophy (especially ethics), developmental/regenerative biology, and learning to combine the worlds of medicine and basic science research. His long-term goal is to become a physician-scientist who runs a basic science lab, cares for patients, and teaches medical/graduate students. But for the meantime, he's just trying to get through all his first year classes in one piece.

Here at HMS, he's a part of the MD-PhD student steering committee and serves as one of the Pipeline Coordinators for Harvard's SNMA. He's excited to work with local MAPS chapters and Harvard's HPREP program to support underrepresented high school and undergraduate students as they pursue STEM careers. Outside of school, he loves trying exotic foods, cooking dishes he sees on the Food Network, and crossing people up on the basketball court and soccer pitch. He's also passionate about living out his Christian faith in balance with his future career in science and medicine, and learning from others.
